PostClassical Ensemble with James Austin Smith
Oboist James Austin Smith, acclaimed by the New York Times for his virtuosic and dazzling performances, joins members of Washington, DC’s premier chamber orchestra, PostClassical Ensemble. Together, they will present a program featuring virtuoso works for oboe and strings.
Conducted by Angel Gil-Ordóñez, the program features oboe repertoire spanning from the Baroque period to the present. It includes works by Tomaso Albinoni, Florence Price, Krzysztof Penderecki, and Luciano Berio. PostClassical Ensemble will also perform George Walker’s moving Lyric for Strings, while Smith will present a stirring solo piece by Guggenheim Fellow and Rome Prize winner Suzanne Farrin. The concert will conclude with Grammy Award-winning composer Kevin Puts’s Oboe Concerto No. 1.
