Amazing Grace: Fire and Light
PostClassical Ensemble’s seasonal tradition of ringing in the New Year, Amazing Grace, returns with a captivating program featuring music for chamber orchestra and vocal soloists.
Celebrating the universal expression of the human spirit through music, Amazing Grace invites a BIPOC composer to curate a concert that resonates with them personally and share their own work. In January, Native American composer Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate will lead PCE on a journey of fire and light.
The program includes selections from his poignant cantata Standing Bear and Lowak Shoppala (Fire and Light), which reflect Tate’s Chickasaw heritage. The concert will also feature Samuel Barber’s dreamlike Knoxville: Summer of 1915, performed by Mvskoke soprano Kirsten C. Kunkle.
